Happy Canada Day!

I considered writing a post about patriotism, how God has blessed Canada over the years, fascinating Canadian history facts, or how much we need to pray for our leaders and country. While all of those are wonderful topics I have written about in the past on The Remnant and will continue to, I couldn’t figure out how to put into words what I really want to say about my country, especially as recent events have made Canadians a little more patriotic than most years.

I sifted through countless Canadian memes and jokes on Pinterest and tried to motivate myself to write this post by researching incredible Canadians in history and how they helped shape the nation we have today.

But then I wondered, “Do I really need to say something profound? Do I really need to come up with something new to inspire Canadians?” After all, there is already a wealth of history and examples of God’s provision and blessings.

I doubt I need to remind Canadians of the strength that has defined us, from braving harsh winters to defending our country against attacks, physical or verbal, to the brave men and women who fight to protect our freedoms.

The brilliant innovation, remarkable grit, and steadfast determination that Canadians have demonstrated since long before Confederation is plain for all to see. I don’t need to remind you of how God protected and provided for us every step of the way.

Throughout the history of the second-largest nation in the world, there have been astounding victories and incredible contributions to the world as well as sad moments of disgrace and distressing shame.

Take a moment this Canada Day to consider how God has masterfully brought this wonderful nation into existence and preserved it for even beyond 158 years.

As our Founding Fathers did, let us recognize the crucial importance of having God at the centre of Canada and as our firm foundation. No matter how far our nation and governments drift from biblical principles, never forget that, as the preamble to Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms states, ”Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law."

May our prayer be as the fourth verse of “O Canada” proclaims:

Ruler Supreme, Who hearest humble prayer,

Hold our dominion within Thy loving care;

Help us to find, O God, in Thee

A lasting, rich reward,

As waiting for the Better Day,

We ever stand on guard…

Now more than ever, we need God and a revival of the truth from coast to coast to coast. Our leaders require wisdom each day to guide us, and we are called to lift them up in prayer (1 Timothy 2:1–4). Friends, let us never stop praying for our country and our leaders.

Let’s do it together.

May God keep our land glorious and free.

What's your favourite part of Canadian culture or being Canadian? Cheering on your favourite hockey team? (I know I’m going to make some enemies by saying this, but this Toronto girl cheers for her Maple Leafs! LOL) Tim Hortons? Confusing non-Canadians by spelling certain words with a “u”?😂 Let me know in the comments below!

To celebrate 158 years of Canada’s sovereignty, here is a bunch of heartwarming yet hilariously relatable Canadian jokes and inspiring quotes! Happy Canada Day!

"I am Canadian, a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who govern my country. A wonderful reminder, ultimately, Canada is under the rule of God, not our prime minister or king.

Also, I found this one a bit too relatable 😂😂

P.S. it is pronounced "zee" not "zed" 😏
