Worship Through It

Have you ever been stuck in a season of waiting? Waiting for an answer to prayer, waiting for something to happen, waiting for healing. I certainly have.

        God is Worthy

What is your natural response when God does something awesome or answers your prayers? Usually praise and thankfulness, right? But why do we wait until after God has done what we want him to do to give him the praise he is already so worthy of?

The fact that God is worthy of all our praise and worship is not dependent upon what He does or does not do. Regardless of if He answers your prayers with a yes or a no or a wait, He is still the omnipotent Creator of the universe. He still reigns on the throne of the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Before the world began, before time as we know it even existed, He was still God. Thousands of years later (notice I didn’t say millions; but that’s an article for another day :) after all He has done and created, He is still God. Nothing can change that.

As Paul explained in Colossians 1:16-17, all things, both in heaven and in earth, were created by Him. He is before all things, and all things consist and have their being by Him.

So, if God is worthy of all our praise and worship just because of Who He is, why is it that we often praise Him simply because of what has or hasn’t done for us?

Why do we wait to praise and thank Him until He gives us what we want or takes us where we want to be?

Remnant, we were created to glorify God. At all times. Not just in the good times. Not just when our grades are up or when we’re happy and healthy. But also when we are struggling. When we’re feeling lonely or afraid. When we are waiting.

“Worship Through It”

There is a song Christian artists Tasha Layton and Chris Brown sing called “Worship Through It.” (You can find this song and more like it on The Remnant's playlists on Spotify!) During my (exasperatingly long!) season of waiting on God, this song challenged me to reexamine my attitude while I waited.

I know my God can do it

So I’m gonna worship through it

Before I see my breakthrough

I’m gonna choose to praise You…

This song is such an inspiring anthem. It reminds me of what Psalm 100:4 says: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name” (NKJV). This verse doesn’t say to do these things only when God does something for you that you’re excited about. Rather, the Bible shows us from cover to cover that this should be how we live our lives each day.

As Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (NKJV, emphasis mine).

Even if you haven’t seen your answer to prayer yet, don’t give up! Have faith that even when you don’t see it, God is working behind the scenes for your benefit and His glory. Praise Him in advance for what will come, even if it’s not what you expect. His plans are higher than ours, but always for our good.

Finally, during these tiresome waits, choose to worship through it because God is already worthy.

Let’s do it together.

-Olivia
